Peter Greer, Bank Robberies, New Jersey 2012
A ruthless bank robber has been brought to justice after admitting to two daring heists in the Garden State.
Peter Greer, 40, of New Brunswick, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Katharine S. Hayden in Newark federal court to an information charging him with two counts of bank robbery.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Greer used intimidation to rob the Valley National Bank in Newark on September 27, 2012. He entered the bank, approached the bank teller and provided a note that said 'give me the money in hundred dollar bills.' The teller complied and Greer fled the bank with the money.
Greer also admitted to using intimidation to rob the Sovereign Bank in Newark on October 31, 2012. He entered the bank, approached the bank teller and provided a note that said 'I have a gun, give me money.' This time the teller did not comply, and Greer fled the bank without any money.
The bank robbery counts carry a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, for each count with which he is charged. Sentencing is scheduled for January 5, 2015.
U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Aaron T. Ford in Newark, with the investigation leading to charges. He also thanked the Passaic Police Department and the Passaic County Sheriff's Department for their contribution to the case.
