Franklinton Mail Contractor Sentenced for Bank Fraud and Mail Theft
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
Rachel Watts Sanders, a 39-year-old mail contractor from Loranger, Louisiana, was sentenced to five years of probation for her role in a bank fraud and mail theft scheme.
According to court documents, Sanders stole over 40 checks from the mail while working as a Postal Highway Contract Route contractor in Franklinton, Louisiana. She then forged endorsements on the stolen checks and deposited them into her own bank account, resulting in losses totaling $22,717.66.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
Sanders previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1343, and mail theft, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1708.
The determination of restitution will be held at a later date. Sanders's sentencing occurred on August 28, 2025.
