Ramon Howard, Bank Robberies, Wisconsin 2020

A Portage man has been sentenced to 9 years in federal prison for his role in a string of bank robberies in Madison, Wisconsin.

Ramon Howard, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William Conley on Friday, September 18 to the maximum penalty under the federal sentencing guidelines for three bank robberies.

Howard pleaded guilty to the charges on June 25, 2020, and was found to have robbed three financial institutions in the city over the course of two weeks in September 2019.

The robberies took place at the Associated Bank on East Towne Boulevard on September 13, the Summit Credit Union on Thierer Road on September 16, and the UW Credit Union on Northport Drive on September 26.

Howard's co-defendant, Antonio Rowe, has also pleaded guilty to his role in the robberies, and is set to be sentenced by Judge Conley on October 20.

The charges against Howard and Rowe were the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Howard thanked the police department for their handling of his arrest, stating that it could have ended much worse.

At his sentencing, Judge Conley noted that Howard has spent his adult life incarcerated or under supervision, and that he frightened and traumatized the bank tellers during the robberies.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey C. Stephan.
