Rasko "Ron" Djordjevic and Milija "Mike" Perkovic, Health Care Fraud, Michigan 2023

Published June 9, 2020

Two hearing aid salesmen have been convicted of health care fraud in Michigan, defrauding insurance companies out of over $600,000.

Rasko "Ron" Djordjevic, 44, and Milija "Mike" Perkovic, 28, each pleaded guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud in federal court in Detroit.

The evidence revealed that from February 2015 to April 2017, Djordjevic owned and operated Sterling Hearing Care, Inc., which was marketed as a hearing aid business with multiple locations in Southeast Michigan.

Perkovic, who is Djordjevic's brother-in-law, worked as a salesman conducting hearing evaluations and selling hearing aids under Djordjevic's direction.

The scheme involved defrauding Blue Cross Blue Shield out of over $600,000 and American Hearing Benefits out of over $132,000.

The defendants carried out their scheme by billing insurance companies for hearing aids and services that were not provided or were unauthorized.

'Our office has no tolerance for health care providers that deliberately mislead customers in order to sell a medical product or service and then bill insurance companies for services and products not delivered,' stated United States Attorney Matthew Schneider.

The case was investigated by the FBI's Detroit Field Office and the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General.
