Attempted Robbers Foiled in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH - In a brazen attempt to rob a van carrying pharmaceutical drugs, Raymond Denson, 38, of Trafford, Pennsylvania, and his accomplices, David Lipinski and Anthony Bailey, were thwarted in their efforts on April 27, 2016, at the Giant Eagle in Gibsonia.

According to court records, Denson, serving as the getaway driver, was present when Lipinski brandished a firearm while trying to force the driver back into the van. However, the attempted robbery was ultimately aborted.

United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced yesterday that Denson has been sentenced to 62 months imprisonment, which includes 20 months already served, and five years supervised release, on his convictions for attempted robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak imposed the sentence on Denson, a Western Pennsylvania resident.

Assistant United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman prosecuted this case on behalf of the government, commending the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and the Northern Regional Police Department for their investigation leading to Denson's conviction.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. In October 2017, Attorney General Jeff Sessions reinvigorated PSN, directing all U.S. Attorney's Offices to develop a district crime reduction strategy.

The successful prosecution of Denson is a testament to the efforts of PSN in addressing the rising tide of violent crime in America.
