Raymond Zwibel, Bank Robbery, Pennsylvania 2017
Banks in Southwestern Pennsylvania were robbed by a man identified as Raymond Zwibel, a former resident of Clairton, Pennsylvania.
The robberies took place at First Commonwealth Bank in New Alexandria on August 19, 2013, Citizens Bank in Latrobe on August 23, 2013, and First Commonwealth Bank in West Mifflin on January 30, 2014. In each case, the robber used a note but no observable firearm.
Zwibel was identified by police from bank surveillance footage and later confessed to the crimes after waiving his Miranda rights. He also admitted to using his girlfriend's vehicles in the robberies.
Zwibel previously pleaded guilty to the January 30, 2014 bank robbery in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.
On July 7, 2017, Zwibel pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery in federal court before United States District Judge S. David Cercone. The charges carried a total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $500,000.00, or both.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the investigation, with valuable assistance from many state and local police departments, including the Pennsylvania State Police, the Latrobe Police Department, and the West Mifflin Police Department.
Pending sentencing, the court returned Zwibel to the custody of the United States Marshal Service. Judge Cercone scheduled sentencing for November 6, 2017, at 11 a.m.
