Recco Roger Collins, Bank Robbery, Georgia 2014
A 45-year-old Albany, Georgia man has been sentenced to nearly 18 years in federal prison for his role in a daring armed bank robbery. Recco Roger Collins, admitted to driving a getaway vehicle during a February 2013 heist at PeoplesSouth Bank in Donalsonville, Georgia.
According to court documents, Collins and his co-defendants, Tony Key and Anthony Facon, targeted PeoplesSouth Bank on February 28, 2013, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. However, their crime spree didn't end there. Collins also admitted to robbing the Trust Bank in Adel, Georgia, of approximately $9,279 and preparing to rob the Citizen's Bank in Ray City, Georgia, on February 7, 2013.
U.S. Attorney Michael J. Moore said Collins' actions put human lives and property in jeopardy, earning him a lengthy stay in federal prison.
Ricky Maxwell, Acting Special Agent-In-Charge of the FBI Atlanta Field Office, stated that while Collins and his co-defendants may not have physically harmed anyone, the psychological harm they inflicted on bank tellers, customers, and the community is immeasurable.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Donalsonville Police Department, Miller County Sheriff's Office, and Seminole County Sheriff's Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Leah E. McEwen.
Collins entered a guilty plea on November 4, 2013, and was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison on February 27, 2014. He was also ordered to pay restitution to repay the money stolen and costs associated with vehicle repair and medical expenses.
