Richard B. Morgan, 67, Pleads Guilty to Receiving Child Pornography in Roanoke, Virginia

Roanoke, VIRGINIA – A 67-year-old man from Roanoke, Virginia, has pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography, authorities announced. Richard B. Morgan waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography.

According to investigators with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, Morgan received at least 144 files containing child pornography. A search warrant was obtained for Morgan’s home address, and during the search, he admitted to downloading child pornography and being the only person with access to the computer in his apartment.

Forensic analysis of Morgan's computer and external hard drive revealed 1,849 images and 4,406 videos containing child pornography. Morgan is scheduled to be sentenced on February 16, 2018, at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation was conducted by the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security. Assistant United States Attorney Charlene R. Day is prosecuting the case for the United States.

Morgan, 67, was charged with one count of receipt of child pornography, a federal offense. The case is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.

The charges against Morgan stem from an investigation that began in June 2015, when an investigator with the Southern Virginia ICAC identified the IP address attached to Morgan’s home address as one associated with an IP address downloading files containing child pornography.

The case highlights the importance of vigilance in combating child exploitation and the critical role that law enforcement agencies play in protecting vulnerable populations.
