BANK ROBBERY ROCKS LEXINGTON COMMUNITY
A West Virginia man, 72, has been sentenced to 139 months in prison for a brazen bank robbery that left a Lexington community shaken.
Richard Hudson, a career offender, was found guilty of bank robbery by intimidation after he stole $14,106 from the Traditional Bank on Tates Creek Road in Lexington on February 15, 2024.
According to eyewitnesses, Hudson approached a teller and demanded that she empty the contents of her drawer into a grocery bag. He then instructed her to empty the bottom drawer as well, before fleeing the scene.
Hudson, who has a history of bank robberies dating back to the 1980s, was eventually apprehended in Charleston, West Virginia. His sentence, which must be served in its entirety, will see him spend 139 months behind bars.
Under federal law, Hudson will be required to serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, meaning he will spend at least 117 months and 15 days in prison. Upon his release, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years.
The investigation into Hudson's crimes was a joint effort between the FBI and the Lexington Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Chapman prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
Hudson's sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing federal crimes. His actions not only put the lives of bank employees at risk but also had a significant impact on the community.
