Richard L. Treis, Possession With Intent To Distribute Methamphetamine, Missouri 2020

A 46-year-old man from Missouri has been charged with a serious crime after a sting operation by federal authorities.

According to a complaint filed in federal court, Richard L. Treis was arrested on July 29, 2020, after attempting to purchase 40 pounds of methamphetamine from an undercover agent with the Department of Homeland Security.

Treis, who was 46 at the time of the arrest, had contacted the undercover agent on July 15, 2020, to discuss the purchase of the large quantity of methamphetamine.

The two agreed to meet in Pacific, Missouri, where Treis would exchange $120,000 in cash for the methamphetamine.

However, before the exchange could take place, investigators converged on the scene and arrested Treis, as well as another individual who was driving the vehicle.

Treis is charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, a serious felony offense.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and Treis is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The case is being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Assistant United States Attorney Derek Wiseman handling the prosecution.

Treis's current status is unclear, but it is expected that he will face serious penalties if convicted of the charges against him.
