Phenix City Man Sentenced For Distributing Child Pornography

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A man from Phenix City, Alabama has been sentenced for his involvement in distributing child pornography.

According to court records, 37-year-old Richard Ryan Jazek was sentenced to 151 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

The charges against Jazek stem from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into a Kik messenger app user who was sharing images and videos of suspected child pornography. The FBI discovered that the suspected Kik account and username were linked to Jazek, along with the IP address.

Further investigation revealed that Jazek’s Kik account had in fact uploaded multiple images and videos containing child pornography. In his plea agreement, Jazek admitted specifically sharing a video on September 22, 2020, and then sharing an image on October 4, 2020.

After both of these Kik postings, Jazek responded to other users viewing the video and image in the chat section and made disturbing comments. In addition to his prison sentence, Jazek was ordered to pay $27,000.00 in restitution, or $3,000.00 each to nine victims identified in the videos and images he was sharing.

The FBI investigated this case, and Assistant United States Attorneys James P. Lamb and MaryLou E. Bowdre prosecuted the case.

The case against Jazek serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the authorities.
