Richawn McClain, Machinegun and Fentanyl Trafficking, New York 2024
Troy man Richawn McClain, 26, has admitted to possessing a machinegun in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, along with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine.
According to court documents, McClain possessed a handgun that had been modified to make it into a machinegun, 32 grams of cocaine, and more than 900 fentanyl pills on January 9, 2024. He also had $22,770 in the same bag as the narcotics.
McClain must forfeit the $22,770 as part of his plea. He faces a mandatory prison term of at least 10 years and up to life, a supervised release term of at least 3 years and up to life, and a maximum $1 million fine.
A defendant's sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
The DEA investigated the case, which Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner is prosecuting.
United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Special Agent in Charge Frank A. Tarentino III of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division, made the announcement.
