Felony Firearm Charge Lands Fort Wayne Man Behind Bars

A 55-year-old Fort Wayne man has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felony offense in the eyes of federal authorities.

Rickey James Sr. entered his guilty plea before Magistrate Judge Roger B. Cosbey in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.

This charge was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. James faces a significant sentence if convicted, with the exact term to be determined by the judge after consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Tina Nommay, who is prosecuting the case, this charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, to be followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. James is currently free on bond pending sentencing.

The investigation into James' activities was a joint effort between federal and local authorities, reflecting the growing concern about the proliferation of firearms in the hands of convicted felons.

James' case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with violating federal firearms laws. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who violate these laws are held accountable.

In related news, another Fort Wayne resident, Keana Davis, has also pleaded guilty to a felony charge. We will have more on that case in a separate article.
