Altamont Man Handed 41-Month Prison Sentence for Alpha-PVP Possession

A 47-year-old man from Altamont, Illinois, has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for Possession With Intent to Distribute Alpha-PVP.

Ricky T. Garner, of Altamont, was found guilty of the federal charge on June 2, 2015, after being arrested near Beecher City, IL, on October 1, 2014.

At the time of his arrest, Illinois State Police troopers discovered 70 grams (2 ½ ounces) of Alpha-PVP next to Garner in the truck he was driving.

Alpha-PVP is a prohibited controlled substance very similar to methamphetamine, producing similar effects when ingested.

Garner has been continuously confined since his arrest last October and will serve a 3-year term of supervised release upon release from prison.

The investigation resulting in Garner's conviction was conducted by an Illinois State Police Swat Team based in Effingham, IL.

Garner's case was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison.
