Robert Adkins, Methamphetamine Trafficking and Firearm, New Hampshire 2019
CONCORD, New Hampshire - A 66-month federal prison sentence has been handed down to Robert Adkins, 34, of Alexandria, for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Adkins was found in possession of a backpack containing 36 grams of methamphetamine, a handgun, a loaded magazine, and drug packaging materials on March 25, 2019.
Adkins was a passenger in a truck being driven by a suspect in a logging equipment theft investigation. During the search of the truck, police discovered the backpack belonging to Adkins, which led to the discovery of the contraband.
Adkins previously pleaded guilty to the charges on May 3, 2021. In a statement, Acting U.S. Attorney John J. Farley described methamphetamine as a 'dangerous drug' and emphasized the significance of the sentence.
Farley stated, 'Methamphetamine is a dangerous drug that has been appearing with disturbing frequency in New Hampshire. Armed drug dealers who sell methamphetamine present an even greater threat to public safety. This substantial sentence sends a message that armed drug traffickers will face significant penalties for their unlawful conduct.'
The case was investigated by the Andover Police Department, Danbury Police Department, and Alexandria Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Walsh prosecuted the case.
Robert Adkins, 34, of Alexandria, New Hampshire, was sentenced to 66 months in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents, the methamphetamine was discovered during a search of a backpack belonging to Adkins on March 25, 2019. The backpack also contained a handgun, a loaded magazine, and drug packaging materials.
Adkins pleaded guilty to the charges on May 3, 2021.
