Published February 15, 2024

A Turtle Creek man has been indicted on 20 counts of sexually exploiting minors, federal authorities announced.

Robert Bookshar, 46, was named in a federal indictment returned by a grand jury in Pittsburgh, according to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan.

The indictment alleges that Bookshar used, persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced two minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct on multiple occasions between August 2022 and May 2023.

The indictment also charges that Bookshar received images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit content on multiple occasions between September 2021 and February 2023, and that he knowingly possessed images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of minors on June 29, 2023.

Bookshar is facing a maximum total sentence of not less than 15 years and up to 440 years in prison, a fine of up to $5 million, or both.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Bookshar is currently detained pending trial.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
