Shocking allegations have surfaced in the Hughestown community as a former police officer has been charged with distributing oxycodone. Robert F. Evans, Jr., a 38-year-old resident of Moosic, Pennsylvania, stands accused of distributing the highly addictive opioid on multiple occasions between August 2012 and July 29, 2013.
At the time of the offense, Evans held a position as a police officer with the Hughestown Borough Police Department. The brazen act of corruption has left many questioning the integrity of law enforcement in the area.
According to the investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police, Evans engaged in a pattern of distributing oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, on numerous occasions.
United States Attorney Peter Smith weighed in on the matter, stating that the charge is the direct result of a thorough investigation. ‘This case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of corruption within our law enforcement agencies,’ Smith said.
Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus has been assigned to prosecute the case. It is essential to note that indictments and criminal informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
The potential sentence for Evans is severe, with a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
