Billings Man Sentenced for Distributing Methamphetamine

BILLINGS—In a shocking turn of events, Robert John Bigback, a 23-year-old resident of Billings, Montana, was sentenced to five years in prison and five years of supervised release for distributing methamphetamine.

The sentencing occurred on July 16, 2018, after Bigback pleaded guilty to two counts of distribution of meth. U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided over the sentencing hearing.

According to the investigation, the FBI drug task force received information about meth for sale in April 2017. A confidential informant was used to buy meth from a co-defendant at a hardware store in the Billings Heights. After the co-defendant counted the money, Bigback gave the informant the meth. Another meth sale was arranged a few days later and occurred at Rimrock Mall, where Bigback conducted the sale in the bathroom of a department store.

The two sales involved approximately 20 grams of pure meth, which is equivalent to about 160 individual doses and has a street value of about $2,000.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Suek prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI Task Force. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The investigation and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine distribution and possession in Montana.
