Robert McClelland, Sexual Abuse of a Minor, Nebraska 2023
ROBERT McCLELLAND, 39, of Winnebago, Nebraska, was sentenced to a harsh prison term for his heinous crime of sexual abuse of a minor.
On January 30, 2023, United States District Court Judge Brian C. Buescher handed down the sentence, which includes 11 years and 3 months in prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
After his release from prison, McClelland will begin a 10-year term of supervised release.
The disturbing case began in May 2020, when the minor victim disclosed that McClelland had touched her private area and made her touch his penis. The victim was just 5 or 6 years old at the time of the abuse.
When the minor victim asked McClelland to stop, he did. McClelland was later interviewed by law enforcement and admitted to the conduct. The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation into this despicable crime.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The crime of sexual abuse of a minor is a heinous act that has a lasting impact on the victim and their loved ones. It is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children from predators like Robert McClelland.
