Robert Raymond Fasuga, Possession of Stolen Firearm, Montana 2020

A Helena man is behind bars, accused of possessing a stolen firearm. Robert Raymond Fasuga, 39, was arrested by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on a federal warrant and appeared in U.S. District Court on a criminal complaint, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Leif Johnson.

The criminal complaint filed in the case accuses Fasuga of possession of a stolen firearm. If convicted of the most serious crime, Fasuga faces a maximum 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

A criminal complaint is only an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Fasuga was detained pending further proceedings, with U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen L. DeSoto presiding.

The investigation began on June 15, 2020, when Fasuga engaged the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office in a vehicle pursuit that led to Fasuga's residence. Deputies talked Fasuga into putting down the firearms and took him into custody after attempting to arrest him.

The court documents further allege that the investigation determined that one of the firearms recovered from Fasuga was suspected of having been stolen from Mountain Man Trading Post in January 2020.
