Robert T. Morris, Bank Robbery, Missouri 2014
Robert T. Morris, a 32-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, was sentenced to 19 months in federal prison without parole for robbing a bank in Raytown, Missouri.
According to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, Tammy Dickinson, Morris pleaded guilty on March 26, 2015, to stealing $2,025 from First Federal Bank, located at 9330 E. Gregory, Raytown, on April 24, 2014.
On the day of the robbery, Morris entered the bank and approached the teller counter, providing the teller with a demand note that read, 'YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS, HURRY UP, PUT THE MONEY IN THE BAG, NO FUNNY BUSINESS, HURRY UP.'
The teller showed the note to another teller, who then provided Morris with $2,025, which he put in a manila envelope and fled the bank with. The demand note was left behind.
A witness came forward and told law enforcement that Morris had admitted to his role in the robbery and identified him from bank surveillance photos posted online.
Law enforcement conducted surveillance on Morris and his co-defendant, Anthony Beeks, for several days, observing what they believed to be multiple 'casings' of banks in the Kansas City metropolitan area. A federal search warrant was executed on May 22, 2014, on the vehicle Morris and Beeks were driving, and Morris was arrested the same day.
Co-defendant Anthony Beeks, 53, of Kansas City, also pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on August 13, 2015. Morris was ordered to pay $2,025 in restitution as part of his sentence.
This case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Caine and investigated by the FBI and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department.
