Philadelphia Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Heroin and Cocaine Distribution
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for his role in a heroin and cocaine distribution operation in Vermont.
Robert Thorn, 50, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was found guilty of possessing with intent to distribute heroin and 28 grams or more of cocaine base.
On January 14, 2019, law enforcement stopped a vehicle after investigating suspected drug activity at a residence in Winooski, Vermont. Thorn, a passenger in the vehicle, initially provided law enforcement with a false name.
During the stop, officers found approximately 110 grams of cocaine base, over 8 grams of heroin, and over $3,300 in U.S. currency on Thorn's person.
A further investigation revealed that Thorn had deposited over $36,000 cash in Vermont ATMs in approximately two months while on probation.
Thorn pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 5 years in prison, followed by a 5-year period of supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Cate handled the prosecution, while Thorn was represented by Assistant Federal Defender Steven Barth.
