Robert Thurman, Theft of Mail by Postal Employee, Pennsylvania 2018

A federal indictment has been handed down against Robert Thurman, a 32-year-old resident of Washington, Pennsylvania, on a charge of theft of mail by a postal employee.

According to the indictment, Thurman allegedly stole a gift card intended to be conveyed by mail on August 2, 2018, while employed by the United States Postal Service.

The crime is punishable by a maximum total sentence of not more than five years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.

Assistant United States Attorney Brian M. Czarnecki will be prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

The U.S. Postal Service-Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG) led the investigation into the alleged theft.

An indictment is an accusation, and Thurman is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Thurman has been requested to be released on $5,000 unsecured bond.
