Robert W. Wood, Child Pornography, New York 2020

A Corning man pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, bringing a 10-year minimum prison sentence and a $250,000 fine into play. Robert W. Wood, 49, was found in possession of over 2,300 images and over 20 videos of child pornography, some of which depicted the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.

The discovery was made during an unannounced visit to Wood's residence by members of the U.S. Probation Department. Wood was on supervised release at the time, stemming from a 2011 conviction for possession of child pornography, for which he was sentenced to 24 months in prison and 15 years supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan K. McGuire stated that the evidence against Wood was overwhelming. A search of the unauthorized smart phone in his possession revealed the disturbing images and videos.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the guilty plea, which was made before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Probation Department.

Wood's sentencing is scheduled for January 10, 2020, before Judge Geraci. The plea is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert, and the U.S. Probation Department, under the direction of Chief Probation Officer Anthony SanGiacomo.

The investigation and evidence gathered have brought the defendant to justice, but the case serves as a reminder of the ongoing problem of child pornography and the need for continued vigilance.

Wood's case is a stark reminder of the importance of monitoring and enforcing supervised release conditions. The fact that he was found in possession of child pornography while on supervised release is a disturbing indication of the challenges faced by law enforcement in keeping communities safe.
