Meridian Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Firearms and Drug Trafficking Crimes
Roderick Dunshaw Tingle, 38, of Meridian, Mississippi, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Tingle was also ordered to pay a $1,000.00 fine.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves on an unspecified date. This case is part of Project EJECT, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through prosecution, prevention, re-entry, and awareness.
Tingle was found to be in possession of six firearms, including four pistols and two assault-style rifles, at a residence on 23rd Avenue in Meridian, Mississippi. The residence was also found to contain three pounds of marijuana and various items used for drug sales.
A search warrant was obtained for the home after Meridian Police Department officers responded to a residential burglary alarm on March 22, 2019. Officers found a broken window and an open back door, leading them to discover the marijuana and firearms.
Tingle denied ownership of the firearms and marijuana, but a records check revealed that the phone number he provided was in his name. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Meridian Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Charles W. Kirkham.
Tingle's sentence marks a significant blow to the violent crime in the region. Project EJECT aims to reduce violent crime through a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach. The initiative brings together law enforcement and the community to make neighborhoods safer.
