Felon in Possession of Firearms Lands 43 Months Behind Bars

A Gillette, Wyoming man has been sentenced to 43 months in federal prison for being a felon and unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of firearms.

Roman Daniel Vanberkom, 31, was sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on October 27, 2017 in connection with his arrest in Gillette, Wyoming.

According to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which investigated the case, Vanberkom was found to be in possession of firearms despite being a felon and an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

The sentence was handed down after Vanberkom was found guilty of being a felon and unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of firearms.

Vanberkom was ordered to serve 43 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a $400.00 fine and a $100.00 special assessment.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of following firearms laws, particularly for those with a history of felony convictions.
