Romeal Price, a 36-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, has been sentenced to 11 years and 4 months in prison for his role in a brazen bank robbery in Dunmore, Pennsylvania.
On June 18, 2013, Price escaped from the Catholic Social Services Residential Reentry Center, where he was serving the remaining few months of a 15-year federal prison sentence from 2001. Ten days later, he robbed the Pennstar Bank in Dunmore, making off with approximately $11,000.
Following the robbery, Price fled to New York City, but was apprehended by deputies from the United States Marshals Service on July 17, 2013. The arrest was made without incident in a New York City apartment.
Price pleaded guilty to bank robbery and escape, and was sentenced by Senior United States District Court Judge James M. Munley in Federal Court in Scranton. United States Attorney Peter J. Smith praised the law enforcement agencies involved in the case, including the United States Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Dunmore Police Department.
The case against Price is a stark reminder of the dangers of escaping from custody and the consequences of committing further crimes. As Price serves his sentence, another individual, Vanessa Ramos, awaits sentencing for her role in the bank robbery. Ramos, 23, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the bank robbery by acting as the getaway driver for Price.
The investigation into the bank robbery and Price’s subsequent arrest was a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Gurganus is prosecuting the case against Price and Ramos.
Romeal Price’s sentence is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators of crime to justice. As the people of Dunmore and the surrounding areas can rest a little easier knowing that Price is behind bars, the Grimy Times will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as necessary.
