New Orleans Man Indicted for Gun Crime
Ronnie Davis, a 27-year-old resident of Orleans Parish, has been charged with violating the Federal Gun Control Act.
A federal grand jury indicted Davis on May 26, 2022, for possessing firearms while being a convicted felon.
According to the indictment, Davis knowingly possessed two firearms: a Taurus 9 mm handgun and a Century Arms 'Draco' style 7.62 rifle.
The indictment alleges that Davis, knowing he had been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year in the State of Louisiana, did knowingly possess the firearms.
If convicted, Davis faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of up to $250,000.00, up to three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
This case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the violent crime reduction efforts.
The PSN Program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Trummel.
