Roy Lee Jones, Armed Robbery, Missouri 2022
A brazen armed robbery has shaken the community in Jennings, Missouri, as two men, Roy Lee Jones, 21, and Xavier Sean Boyd, 20, are accused of targeting a third postal worker at gunpoint.
According to the U.S. Postal Service, the armed robbery occurred on June 9, 2022, with the duo making off with the worker's 'arrow keys,' which are used to open U.S. Postal Service collection boxes.
This latest accusation adds to the charges that Jones and Boyd are already facing, including six felony counts: two counts of robbery, two counts of theft of a mail key, and two counts of possession and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a robbery.
The superseding indictment, filed on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis, adds one count of each crime, bringing the total charges against the pair to seven.
Inspector in Charge Ruth Mendonça of the Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which includes the St. Louis Field Office, stated, 'Those who commit violent crimes against postal employees who provide a critical service to the public must be held accountable.'
The indictment accuses Boyd of acting with another individual in a June 1 robbery.
The penalty for each robbery charge is up to 25 years in prison, while the theft charges carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The firearm charges carry a penalty of at least seven years, consecutive to all other charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Dunkel is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the St. Louis County Police.
