Roylee Richardson, Jr., Firearm and Witness Tampering, Iowa 2022
A Davenport man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and tampering with a witness. Roylee Richardson, Jr., 32, was found guilty by a federal jury in August 2022.
The charges stem from a February 7, 2021, shooting at a Davenport apartment complex. Police were called to the scene after shots were fired, and they found spent casings and bullet fragments. Richardson was identified as the shooter and was arrested after attempting to scale off a second-story balcony.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Richardson had attempted to tamper with the witness's testimony by repeatedly contacting the victim. This is the third time Richardson has been convicted for charges related to a shooting.
In November 2008, Richardson was convicted of Willful Injury Resulting in Bodily Injury and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon in the Iowa District Court for Scott County. In July 2016, Richardson was convicted of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent, Possession of a Firearm or Offensive Weapon by a Felon, Willful Injury Resulting in Bodily Injury, and Going Armed with Intent in the Iowa District Court for Scott County.
Richardson was sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment for each offense, with the sentences to be served concurrently. He received a 10-year prison sentence for the firearm conviction and a 20-year prison sentence for the witness tampering charges. After his prison term, Richardson was ordered to serve a three-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made the announcement.
Richardson's sentence is a reminder of the serious consequences of firearm-related crimes and witness tampering. The Davenport community can expect increased efforts to combat these types of crimes and keep its residents safe.
