Russell S. Adler, Federal Election Campaign Act & Defrauding the US, Florida 2014
Russell S. Adler, a 52-year-old resident of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for his involvement in the scandalous Rothstein case.
Adler, a shareholder of the former Ft. Lauderdale law firm of Rothstein, Rosenfeldt and Adler, P.A. (RRA), pleaded guilty on April 4, 2014, to one count of conspiracy to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act and to defraud the United States, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371.
As part of his guilty plea, Adler admitted that he and other RRA employees were enlisted by the firm's Chairman and CEO, Scott W. Rothstein, to make unlawful political contributions to various campaigns. These contributions were then reimbursed by RRA, thereby circumventing campaign finance laws that limit individual contributions.
The sentencing of Adler marks another significant development in the ongoing investigation into RRA's corrupt practices. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lawrence D. LaVecchio, Paul F. Schwartz, and Jeffrey N. Kaplan.
U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the FBI and IRS-CI in bringing Adler to justice. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their role in corrupt business practices.
Russell S. Adler will serve 30 months in prison, followed by 2 years of supervised release. This sentence is a direct result of his conviction for conspiracy to defraud the United States and violate the Federal Election Campaign Act.
