Mail Thief Targets Orlando Residents

A brazen mail thief has been caught in the act in Orlando, Florida. Ryan Anthony Aheran, 27, has been charged with mail theft after stealing over 1,000 pieces of mail from cluster mailboxes in the area. According to the criminal complaint, the theft occurred on October 1, 2024.

The investigation led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) revealed that Aheran had used a vehicle to steal the mail. During the search of the vehicle, USPIS agents located over 1,000 pieces of stolen mail taken from multiple zip codes. Additionally, Aheran was caught on video surveillance cashing a check for $9,500 that had been stolen from the mail in November 2023.

If convicted, Aheran faces up to five years in federal prison. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida has federally prosecuted over 50 cases related to theft and/or destruction of mail, obstruction of mail delivery, and robberies of postal carriers in the past four years.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and the Orlando Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Megan Testerman, Richard Varadan, and Diane Hu are prosecuting the case.
