Ryan Berte, Child Pornography, New York 2021

A man from Madison County, New York, has admitted to downloading and sharing hundreds of images and videos of child pornography.

Ryan Berte, 33, of Eaton, New York, pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography in a federal court in Syracuse, New York.

According to the investigation, Berte downloaded images and videos of child pornography between February 24, 2021, and March 10, 2021, while working as a mail carrier in Madison County. He also made the content available to others using a peer-to-peer file sharing program on his laptop.

On September 22, 2021, law enforcement searched Berte's home and found hundreds of images and videos of child pornography on his laptop.

Berte faces a maximum potential sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum term of 5 years' imprisonment, a term of supervised release of between 5 years and life, and a maximum fine of $250,000.

At sentencing, scheduled for May 22, 2023, Berte will also be required to register as a sex offender upon release from prison.

This case was investigated by the United States Postal Service-Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG), the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), and the New York State Police (NYSP). The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian S. LaRochelle as a part of Project Safe Childhood.
