Ryan Berte, Child Pornography, New York 2022
A Madison County, New York man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography.
Ryan Berte, 33, of Eaton, New York, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography.
According to the indictment, Berte admitted to downloading images and videos of child pornography between February 24, 2021, and March 10, 2021, while employed as a mail carrier in Madison County.
He also admitted to making the images and videos available to third parties using a peer-to-peer file sharing program installed on his laptop.
On September 22, 2021, during a search of his home, Berte possessed hundreds of images and videos of child pornography on his laptop.
Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes also sentenced Berte to 15 years of supervised release, to begin following his term of imprisonment.
Berte will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the New York State Police.
It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian S. LaRochelle as part of Project Safe Childhood.
Launched in May 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a program aimed at preventing child exploitation and abuse.
