Ryan Davidek, Sex Crimes, California 2016

Federal authorities have charged a Lincoln, California man with sex crimes against a minor.

According to court documents, Ryan Davidek, 39, met a 14-year-old victim online in 2016 and began a sexual relationship with them. Over the course of several years, Davidek booked hotel rooms and traveled across state lines, transporting the victim to commit the charged crimes.

The charges against Davidek include transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. If convicted, Davidek faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison and a $250,000 fine. He also faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the second charge.

The case against Davidek is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexis Klein is prosecuting the case. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Davidek is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The charges are only allegations, and the court will determine the sentence after considering any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
