Ryan Evers, Child Pornography, North Carolina 2021
Ryan Evers, a 28-year-old from Holly Springs, North Carolina, was sentenced to 140 months (11.67 years) in federal prison for receiving child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Michael Easley for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
On March 9, 2021, Evers pleaded guilty to the charge of Receipt of Child Pornography. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan.
According to court documents, in September 2018, Evers was communicating online with a minor child via social media. During the conversations, Evers discussed wanting to have sexual intercourse with the child and encouraged the child to send sexually explicit images.
The minor child, who has not been identified, posed for pictures as instructed by Evers and sent them to the defendant. The social media site reported the images to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which then forwarded the information to the local law enforcement agency for investigation.
Law enforcement officers were able to identify Evers through the IP address used during the online communications and the photographs he sent to the child. At the time of the communications, Evers lived in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
The investigation revealed that Evers had video calls with the child, during which the child sexually penetrated himself with objects encouraged by Evers.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charity Wilson.
The case is part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national program aimed at prosecuting criminals who exploit children and making full use of all available law enforcement resources.
