Ryan James Sandberg, Methamphetamine Trafficking, South Dakota 2021

Published April 28, 2021

A 19-year-old Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Ryan James Sandberg was sentenced on April 26, 2021, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier for his conviction on a single count of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.

According to court documents, Sandberg knowingly and intentionally combined, conspired, confederated, and agreed with others to distribute a mixture and substance containing 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Sandberg voluntarily and intentionally joined in the agreement to distribute methamphetamine and obtained over 500 grams of the substance from a co-conspirator, redistributing it to other co-conspirators in the District of South Dakota and elsewhere.

Methamphetamine is a Schedule II controlled substance, and its distribution is a serious offense. Sandberg's involvement in the operation put many lives at risk, and his sentence reflects the severity of his crimes.

The case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force, the Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer D. Mammenga prosecuted the case.

Sandberg was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after his sentencing, marking the end of a long and complex investigation.
