Ryan Mumme, Child Pornography Possession, Maine 2023

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Eastport, Maine. Ryan Mumme, 46, of Eastport, Maine, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to possession of child pornography.

According to court records, Mumme was interviewed by agents at his home and admitted to having child pornography on his laptop computer. A subsequent forensic examination of the laptop revealed multiple images and videos of children under the age of twelve engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The defendant faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and the Eastport Police Department. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
