Ryan Nicholas Schwery, Methamphetamine Distribution, Iowa 2020
Council Bluffs, Iowa - In a shocking blow to the Iowa methamphetamine trade, Ryan Nicholas Schwery, a 43-year-old resident of Shelby County, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for distributing the highly addictive substance.
According to United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum, Schwery was sentenced on July 13, 2020, by United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose for his role in distributing methamphetamine in Harlan, Iowa.
The investigation, led by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, revealed that Schwery was responsible for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine in the area.
Using a confidential source, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office made three separate purchases of methamphetamine from Schwery before serving a search warrant on his living quarters at the Harlan Inn and Suites.
During the search, officers located approximately 144 grams of pure methamphetamine, along with drug distribution paraphernalia, and over $1,000 in cash from the sale of methamphetamine.
Schwery entered a guilty plea to Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute on February 21, 2020, leading to his current sentence.
The case was investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuting the case.
As a result of this investigation, Schwery will spend the next 78 months behind bars, followed by six years of supervised release.
