Published March 5, 2020

A 23-year-old man from India, who was in the United States on a student visa, has pleaded guilty to sexually enticing an 11-year-old girl in Western New York.

The crime was committed in Buffalo, N.Y., and carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum penalty of life in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.

Sachin Aji Bhaskar, 23, pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny to one count of sexual enticement of a minor.

According to the guilty plea, Bhaskar used text and email to communicate with the 11-year-old girl for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

Through those communications, Bhaskar enticed the victim to engage in sexual activity with him on August 11, 2018.

The plea is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert, and the Cheektowaga Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Sliwinski.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 17, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. before Judge Skretny.

Bhaskar, who was living in the United States on a student visa, is facing the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence for his crimes.

The case against Bhaskar serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat of child predators and the importance of vigilance in protecting our children.
