Saidah A. Davis, Witness Tampering, New Jersey 2021

Published October 29, 2021

Camden, NJ - A brazen attempt to bribe a witness and steal a gun from a car in police custody has landed a Camden County woman behind bars. Saidah A. Davis, 41, of Woodlynne, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to witness tampering charges in federal court on April 16, 2021.

According to documents filed in the case, Davis and her co-conspirator, Anthony D. Parker, aka 'Papa Smurf,' 37, of Camden, tried to bribe a tow lot employee to break into a vehicle seized by the Camden County Police Department. The vehicle, which belonged to Parker, contained a gun and cash.

Davis, an acquaintance of a relative of the tow lot employee, approached the employee and asked for his help. Parker offered the employee $2,000 to remove the gun and cash from the vehicle, but the employee refused the bribe.

Davis and Parker's scheme was uncovered by the FBI, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, and the Camden County Police Department. The witness tampering charge carries a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison and a potential $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greatest.

Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on March 3, 2022. Her co-conspirator, Parker, is charged with witness tampering and possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. His trial is set for November 29, 2021.

The investigation into Davis and Parker's scheme was a joint effort between the FBI, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, and the Camden County Police Department.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen M. Harberg of the Criminal Division in Camden.

The charges against Parker are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
