A Luzerne County man has been indicted on a serious charge, accused of engaging in a heinous act on a cruise ship.

Salem Christopher Diop, 22, of Kingston, Pennsylvania, is facing life imprisonment after being indicted by a federal grand jury on a sexual assault charge.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that on July 8, 2023, Diop engaged in sexual assault with a victim incapable of appraising the nature of the conduct.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is life imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
