Samuel Alfaro-Sanchez, Reentering the United States Illegally, Vermont 2025

Burlington, Vermont - In a recent sentencing, Samuel Alfaro-Sanchez, 31, of Mexico, was handed a 3-month and 20-day prison sentence for reentering the United States without lawful status.

According to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont, Alfaro-Sanchez was found in the district on August 13, 2025, without any lawful status to be in the country.

Alfaro-Sanchez pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States and was sentenced by United States District Judge Geoffrey Crawford on December 17, 2025.

Court records revealed that Alfaro-Sanchez had entered the United States illegally on numerous prior occasions. In 2008, he voluntarily returned to Mexico after being apprehended near Tucson, Arizona. He was removed from the United States twice in 2018 and once in 2019.

In 2020, Alfaro-Sanchez was expelled from the United States twice in September after being apprehended on two separate occasions near Douglas, Arizona. He was also expelled from the United States in 2021 after being apprehended near Douglas, Arizona.

First Assistant United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher commended the investigatory efforts of the United States Border Patrol.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Charles W. Kirkham, while Alfaro-Sanchez was represented by Assistant Federal Public Defender Charles N. Curlett, Jr.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that seeks to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
