Samuel Bobby Wright, Fentanyl and Heroin Distribution, South Carolina 2017

Charleston, South Carolina - A pair of family members has been brought to justice for their roles in distributing heroin and fentanyl in Charleston. According to a recent plea agreement, Samuel Bobby Wright, 67, and Horace Edmond Wright, 52, have admitted to their involvement in the illicit opioid trade.

The Wrights, both residents of Charleston, were charged with multiple counts of heroin distribution, as well as several counts of fentanyl distribution. Samuel Bobby Wright's charges include multiple counts of heroin distribution on June 28, July 3, and July 27, 2017, with the sales taking place at a residence located slightly north of Septima Clark Parkway on the peninsula. He was also charged with selling fentanyl from the same address on multiple occasions in September 2017.

Horace Edmond Wright was charged with selling heroin from outside of the same residence on July 13 and 18, 2017. The evidence presented at the change of plea hearings established the Wrights' involvement in the opioid trade and their roles in distributing the deadly substances to those in need.

United States Attorney Sherri A. Lydon stated that the maximum penalty the Wrights could receive is 30 years imprisonment and a fine of $2,000,000 dollars. The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Charleston City Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorneys Jamie Lea Schoen of the Charleston office prosecuting the case.

The Wrights' guilty pleas have brought an end to the investigation, and Senior United States District Judge Patrick Michael Duffy will impose the sentences after reviewing the presentence reports, which will be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
