A Springfield man is facing serious charges after being accused of distributing cocaine.

According to federal authorities, Samuel Diaz, 36, was arrested and charged with distributing and possessing with intent to distribute cocaine.

The indictment alleges that on March 24, 2015, Diaz distributed and possessed with intent to distribute cocaine.

This is a serious offense, carrying a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katharine A. Wagner of U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling's Springfield Branch Office is prosecuting the case.

The details contained in the indictment are allegations, and Diaz is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division.
