Fentanyl Trafficking Ring Busted in Fresno County, California
A pair of illegal aliens have been indicted for trafficking three kilograms of fentanyl powder through Fresno County, California.
Santos Eliodo Irias Lobo, 36, of El Salvador, and Dariel Antonio Florentino Moncada, 21, of Honduras, are facing charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to a federal indictment.
On April 11, 2026, the defendants were traveling through Fresno County on Interstate 5 when law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop for speeding and other traffic violations. Lobo was the driver and presented the vehicle’s registration and an El Salvador ID card showing the name of another individual. Lobo consented to a search of the vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of three 1-kilogram packages of fentanyl powder destined for Oakland.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Sanchez is prosecuting the case.
If convicted, the defendants face a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison and a fine up to $10 million. Any sentence, however, would be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
The charges are only allegations; the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
