Rapid City Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Violent Carjacking

In a shocking turn of events, Saul Crowe, a 25-year-old Rapid City resident, has been sentenced to 20 years and one month in federal prison for his role in a violent carjacking incident that left a victim battered and traumatized.

According to the investigation, Crowe carjacked an occupied van on October 13, 2017, holding the victim at gunpoint and driving him to an isolated area north of Rapid City. There, Crowe and his associates pistol-whipped and beat the victim, with Crowe firing multiple rounds near the victim and making him beg for his life.

The Rapid City Police Department described Crowe as 'Rapid City's most-wanted fugitive' at the time of his arrest. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team, Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff's Office, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the RCPD/PCSO Special Response Team, all contributed to the successful apprehension of Crowe.

Crowe was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after sentencing. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The sentencing comes as a result of a federal grand jury indictment in January 2018, which charged Crowe with eight felony offenses stemming from the carjacking incident. Crowe was previously on federal supervised release for a prior felony conviction for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

The exact criminal charges against Crowe include Carjacking Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Discharging a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence. As part of the sentencing, Crowe was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
