Heroin Trafficking Ring Busted in Columbia County

ALBANY, NEW YORK - A Bronx man has been convicted of conspiring to distribute heroin in Columbia County. Saul E. Pacheco, 38, pleaded guilty to the crime on April 4, 2018.

Pacheco admitted to supplying heroin to Timothy J. Simpson Jr., a Columbia County drug dealer, from April 2017 through March 2018. The two were caught in a DEA sting operation at a casino in Yonkers, Westchester County. Pacheco was arrested with 68 grams of heroin on him. He had discarded a plastic bag containing the drugs once he noticed agents approaching him.

Pacheco is currently in custody and faces a sentence of at least 5 years and up to 40 years in prison, as well as a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 4 years and up to life, when he is sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy on September 16, 2019.

Simpson has also pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and possession charges and is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge McAvoy on June 19, 2019.

The case was investigated by the DEA and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barnett.

Pacheco has also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of conspiring to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl, in a case investigated by the DEA and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Pacheco faces at least 5 years in prison in that case as well.
