Scott E. Billington, Illegal Firearm Possession, Wisconsin 2019
Oshkosh Man Sentenced to Five Years in Federal Prison for Illegal Firearm Possession
United States Attorney Matthew D. Krueger announced that on October 11, 2019, Scott E. Billington, 28, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm.
The sentence was handed down by Chief Judge William C. Griesbach. In addition to the five-year prison sentence, Billington was ordered to spend three years on supervised release following his release from federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Oshkosh Police Department and the Milwaukee office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble.
Billington was previously convicted of domestic violence-related battery in Winnebago County Circuit Court, making him prohibited from ever possessing a firearm. A Special Agent with the ATF tied Billington directly to the firearms recovered during the search of his residence.
Officers with the Oshkosh Police Department obtained and executed a search warrant at Billington's residence in September 2018, recovering a large amount of marijuana, approximately $10,000 in U.S. currency, a .40 caliber firearm, and a .22 caliber firearm. Billington was convicted on state charges related to the marijuana.
Billington's lengthy criminal record and the 'very serious nature' of the crime were factors considered by Chief Judge Griesbach during the sentencing.
