Scott Washington, Heroin Trafficking, New York 2016

A major heroin trafficking ring in Elmira, New York has been dismantled, with the final defendant sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Scott Washington, 31, also known as "Body" and "Addy," was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.

The sentencing took place in Rochester, New York, on an undisclosed date after Washington's arrest on September 28, 2016.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Washington and other members of the conspiracy were responsible for distributing heroin obtained in Trenton, New Jersey, which was transported to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where it was stored, processed, and packaged before being sold in Elmira.

Law enforcement officers arrested Washington and six other defendants on federal narcotics conspiracy charges in 2016. The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, resulted in the seizure of six handguns, numerous rounds of ammunition, paraphernalia for processing and packaging heroin, over $9,500 in U.S. currency, and over 600 bags of heroin packaged for street sale.

All seven defendants have been convicted and sentenced, bringing an end to the major heroin trafficking operation.

The sentencing is a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration; the New York State Police; the Elmira Police Department; the Chemung County District Attorney's Office; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Elmira Heights Police Department; the Horseheads Police Department; and the Chemung County Sheriff's Department.
